Propane (C3H8)

What is Propane (C3H8) ?

Propane is one of a group of liquefied petroleum gases (LP gases). The others include butane, propylene, butadiene, butylene, isobutylene, and mixtures thereof. Propane has a lower energy density but burns more cleanly than gasoline and coal.

Propane uses

Its main uses include home and water heating, cooking and refrigerating food, clothes drying, and powering farm and industrial equipment. The chemical industry also uses propane as a raw material for making plastics and other compounds. It is also used to add to Biogas to increase the calorific value prior to releasing the biogas to the grid .

How can Propane become Dangerous  ?

Propane is highly flammable and can become exposive at levels above 1.7 % in the atmosphere . Even if propane is not ignited, the buildup of the gas can be deadly due to inhalation. Breathing the gas can cause hypoxia, which is a form of oxygen deprivation that can lead to death
