Weatherall Equipment & Instruments Ltd. was originally founded in the 1950's by Mr Helmut Weatherall, who used to supply, together with mining equipment, Riken Keiki gas detectors to the British Coal Board for use in all UK coal mines. Riken's pioneering Interferometer, the Model 18 for Methane, was used extensively for many years.

Today, Weatherall remains a private UK company, working from modern premises in Wendover, Buckinghamshire. We continue to be the exclusive UK & Ireland distributor and Authorised Service Centre for gas detection products (including marine fixed systems) manufactured by the Riken family of companies: Riken Keiki Co., Ltd. Japan, Riken Keiki Korea Co.,Ltd., and RKI Instruments, Inc. USA.

Our long-term association with Riken Keiki, and sister companies, has developed over the years into an excellent business relationship; enabling Weatherall, with the support of Riken and RKI products, to develop sales in demanding industries such as Marine Shipping, Oil & Gas, Utilities, Wastewater, Telecommunications,  and specialist industries such as Semiconductor, Fumigation, and Anaesthetics; Since 2018 Weatherall and Riken have been focusing on The renewable energy market with particular success in the Hydrogen Economy and Battery energy storage market positioning the company as leading gas detection partner as the UK transitions towards a greener carbon free future .

Riken Keiki is a world leader in gas detection and sensor technologies, and has been in business for over 75 years. In 1929 Riken Keiki’s founder Dr. Jiro Tsuji developed the world’s first combustible gas monitor, an Interferometer based on light-wave interference. By 2009 Riken had sold over 800,000 portable and fixed gas monitors worldwide with annual sales exceeding $300.00 million. Riken Keiki have over 1100 employees, many of which are engineers and scientists.

RKI Instruments, Inc. USA, are partnered with Riken and are the exclusive North American supplier of Riken products. The company, located in Union City, California, was established in 1994 by Bob Pellissier and Sandra Gallagher in a joint venture with Riken Keiki. Over the years they have established a very successful business and setup an extensive network of distributors throughout the USA. Every year, RKI continue to achieve a high level of growth, which they attribute to their sales and support of Riken products and the ability to develop their own line of products around Riken’s long lasting sensors.
