It can also be producted by burning Fossil fuels such as coal . Sulphur Dioxide SO2 is produced in huge quantities in intermediate steps of sulphuric acid manufacture.
Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) is widely used in the food and drinks industries for its properties as a preservative and antioxidant.
Whilst harmless to healthy persons when used in recommended concentrations, it can induce asthma when inhaled or ingested by sensitive subjects, even in high dilution.
In high doses it is very toxic and can be fatal .
